Summer, vacation, lightness and togetherness: we are really missing life by the pool right now. With thirty-two works by young Düsseldorf designers, the exhibition FREIBAD (OUTDOOR POOL) brings this atmosphere to the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf.
The outdoor swimming pool is a place of recreation, a place of longing; for many people it is associated with cherished childhood memories. The outdoor pool is also particularly interesting from an aesthetic and architectural perspective, as demonstrated by the new design exhibition at the NRW-Forum. Under the title FREIBAD. Ausstellung Düsseldorfer Designer*innen (FREIBAD. An Exhibition of Düsseldorf Designers), it brings together thirty-two young designers from the fields of illustration, photography, painting, ceramics, object art, fashion, product, jewelry, and furniture design, as well as video art, augmented reality, and digital animation. The typical aesthetics of this environment are explored through these mediums, from swimwear to blue-tiled swimming pools and sun loungers.
The exhibition is a creative homage to the outdoor swimming pool by young Düsseldorf designers. Designer Lukas Philipp Schulz is not only the curator of the exhibition, he also developed the exhibition design to match the outdoor pool aesthetic. The exhibition is realized as part of his final thesis project at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. FREIBAD is an opportunity for new and emerging artists and designers to gather together and present Düsseldorf’s vibrant creative scene.
